![]() ![]() ![]() I’ve written more than once here about my love for palace or court intrigue stories, and this is one of the best I’ve ever read. Now, as he contends with scheming courtiers, duplicitous ministers, and cliques and coteries determined to make him their puppet, he must struggle to rise to fulfill his duties to his people and make his own mark on the Empire. But when the Emperor and all three of his other sons are killed in an airship crash, Maia ascends to the mastery of an Empire he knows nearly nothing about. Born from a bitterly unhappy diplomatic marriage, the half-Goblin boy was raised far away from the splendor of the Imperial Court, where he couldn’t embarrass the rest of his family. Nobody, least of all his father, ever expected Maia to become Emperor of the Elflands. I don’t have anything else to say, so let’s jump right in. That changed this year when a friend recommended it in the strongest terms, and I’m so glad I took his advice because this book is fantastic. The Goblin Emperor is one of those books I’ve looked at every time I see it in Barnes & Noble for years without ever quite getting interested enough to buy it. ![]()
